Young People's Theatre
Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is a project born out of the efforts of a relationship developed with this client’s representative and one of our Partners, Ryan Ogg, in 2020 and has since developed into one of Flat Iron’s key projects for 2021-2022 which will be featured in a future episode on Bloomberg’s BNN series. YPT purchased a fully accessible multi-use building at 161 Frederick Street, only steps away from its historic Front Street East theatre, YPT will expand its footprint with 12,000 additional square feet. The theatre company’s 123 year old Heritage building at 165 Front Street East is also undergoing extensive renovations. Flat Iron is very proud to be part of this significant project. Construction at the Heritage theatre at 165 Front Street has begun and includes demolition of partitions, fixtures, finishes, and removal of selective theatre seating to allow for a new barrier-free space. Upgraded HVAC throughout, extensive renovation / reconfiguration and upgrades of common spaces, washrooms, lobby area, etc. The 161 Frederick Street location consists of 2 floors plus YPT’s offices in the basement at the base of a residential building. A small area of the ground floor will serve as access to both the existing offices and new facilities on the second floor. The second floor will contain facilities for performer rehearsals, production and classroom activities. It will include a rehearsal space and adjoining lounge and office, the YPT wardrobe department and two classrooms.
